Dec 17, 2024
The Student Scientific Association of Philosophy and Islamic Theology of Lorestan University, coinciding with the commemoration of Research and Technology Week, held a student workshop on philosophy in ancient Iran, presented by Dr. Ardeshir Monzami, a faculty member of the Islamic Studies Department of Lorestan University.
According to the Public Relations of Lorestan University, the critics of the workshop were Hojjatoleslam Dr. Hossein Fallahi-Asl, a faculty member of the Department of Philosophy and Islamic Theology, and Dr. Dariush Nazari, a faculty member of the Department of History and Archaeology of Lorestan University.
In the workshop, Dr. Ardeshir Monzami told the students:
"We have had other wisdoms (philosophies) besides Islamic or post-Islamic Iran; such as the wisdom of ancient Iran, the wisdom of India and China.
Secondly, there is a true connection between wisdom and religion; if separation has occurred, it is in modern times and originates from the West, or rather, Westerners.
In other words, there is no separation between religion and wisdom (philosophy); rather, it arises between a part of the religious and the wise, not between religion and wisdom.
Thirdly, there was a very vast and profound background of wisdom in ancient Iran, so that in this same land, after the advent of Islam, a great and profound knowledge called wisdom, or the same philosophy, emerged,
Therefore, we are facing a land that has a very deep and lasting background of wisdom thought, otherwise, wisdom could not have emerged in the name of Iranians among all Islamic lands.
This itself required a vast and extensive background in the field of wisdom thought for the knowledge of wisdom to emerge.
The fourth thing I will say is that in ancient Iran, we do not have any word for wisdom itself; because religion was the bearer of the outcome, meaning the concept of wisdom.
It was the same in China and India in this land.
In ancient Iran, the word religion also meant wisdom; therefore, whenever we want to talk about the knowledge of wisdom in ancient Iran, we will undoubtedly talk about religion; because religion before Islam had many wisdom motivations, just as Islam also reveals very vast and extensive elements of wisdom thoughts."
It is worth mentioning that in this workshop, Dr. Monzami answered the students' questions.
The secretary of the Student Scientific Association of Philosophy and Islamic Theology of Lorestan University is Seyedeh Fahimeh Mousavi.
